Olga Dmitriev's solo exhibition, "Habitat Series" opens on the 30th of June at Fem. gallery.
The exhibition at Fem. gallery will present works from Dmitriev's most recent series of paintings. Dmitriev's interests lie in the tactile nature of the materials she uses. Alongside the shapes and contrasts that are born through the combination of various material elements, monkeys and guenons are a recurring theme that can be seen in these works.
The animals are paired with monochromatic surfaces. The hues and colour combinations in Dmitriev's works are fresh but also peculiar and queer. Neon colours, powdery pastels, translucent turquoises and oranges take on characteristics of chlorinated water, cellophane, shampoo-foam, bubble-gum on white sand, or mist in the jungle.
Dmitriev is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. She is most at home working in the area where painting, installation, fashion and sculpture intersect.
